UPDATE: Drayton Valley School Re-Entry

UPDATE #5 (4:00 P.M. May 16)
STAR Catholic was thrilled to hear an announcement from the Town of Drayton Valley that, beginning at 2:00 p.m. today, a staggered re-entry into the town would begin.
The first day back at work for school staff will be this Friday, May 19, which was already scheduled as a PD day. The first student day back to school will be Tuesday, May 23 (following the long weekend).
Our Drayton Valley schools have been inspected and are in good shape. Our facilities department is currently working to prepare the schools for re-entry, including addressing smoke odors throughout the buildings.
Division Senior Administration will be meeting with School Administration tomorrow to discuss other details such as Diploma Exams and PATs. Any updates will be communicated with families as they become available.

UPDATE #4 (3:00 P.M. May 9)
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we monitor the wildfire situation in Drayton Valley. As the fire is still out of control, re-entry is not being considered at this time; Holy Trinity Academy and St. Anthony School remain closed.
During yesterday’s meeting with Alberta Education, discussions began about contingency plans in the event school closures become long-term and/or have significant impacts on education. We will continue to communicate any updates in this area as they develop.
Our priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our school communities and the community of Drayton Valley as a whole. We are praying for all those who are displaced, first responders battling wildfires across the province, and the countless volunteers working to assist those affected.
UPDATE #3 (3:00 P.M. May 8)
As the wildfire in the area remains out of control, STAR Catholic’s Drayton Valley schools remain closed until further notice.
The Division will be meeting with Alberta Education today to discuss potential impacts of school closures on education. More information will be provided to families in an update at 3 P.M. tomorrow (May 9).
UPDATE #2 (3:00 P.M. May 7)
We continue to monitor the wildfire situation in Drayton Valley alongside the Town and Alberta Education. As the evacuation order is still in place, our Drayton Valley schools will remain closed until further notice.
We ask that you join us in praying for rain and the safety of all involved, including those who have been displaced and first responders working tirelessly to control fires across the province. We will provide another update at 3 p.m. tomorrow (May 8).
UPDATE (6:00 P.M. May 6)
We recognize how stressful and frightening the wildfire is for all of our students, families, and staff that live, work, or go to school in Drayton Valley. Please be assured that we are working closely with Alberta Education and the Town of Drayton Valley when it comes to next steps.
Our Drayton Valley Schools (St. Anthony School and Holy Trinity Academy) will remain closed until further notice. Our main focus at this time is the safety and well-being of all our staff, students, and the community of Drayton Valley. We continue to pray for a positive resolution and for the safety of all.
We will provide another update to families at 3 p.m. tomorrow (May 7) and will continue to provide updates at this situation evolves.

Due to the close proximity of the wildfire to Drayton Valley, and out of an abundance of caution, all STAR Catholic Schools in Drayton Valley (St. Anthony School and Holy Trinity Academy) will be closed to students and staff on Friday, May 5th. Our priority is to keep our students and staff safe. School will resume on Monday, May 8th providing it is safe to do so.
