In and Beyond the Classroom

Posted

STAR Catholic School Division is proud to recognize and celebrate the In and Beyond the Classroom program, an experiential Indigenous Studies initiative developed in partnership with Inoqom Education and the forestry industry. This program offers students the opportunity to learn directly from Indigenous Knowledge Holders and Culture Carriers, grounding education in lived experience, land-based learning, and meaningful connection.

Through this partnership, students engage with local Indigenous experts, participate in field trips, receive classroom resources, and explore Indigenous worldviews through a hands-on, authentic approach. Educational coaching and professional development are also provided to staff to help support this work.

We especially thank Weyerhaeuser Timberlands for their generous five-year commitment to this initiative, and Alison Struth of Inoqom Education, who has played a central role working with teachers in leading and shaping the program at Holy Trinity Academy.

As a school division, we are committed to reconciliation and to creating spaces where Indigenous voices are not only heard, but centered in our classrooms. We are honoured to be a part of this important journey.

“With awareness comes appreciation, with appreciation comes allyship, and being an ally leads to reconciliation.”
